Divorce and Paternity Testing

A simple test can tell if a child is related to a father. When dealing with divorce the issues of paternity testing may become an issue. Legal Paternity Testing is the answer to paternity issues when a court case may be in your future.

Generally speaking with legal paternity tests both parents will have to consent to testing. If one adult is not willing to test sometimes a court ordered paternity test is needed. Identification is also required at the time of testing. This ID can be a

  • passport
  • military id
  • drivers license
  • government-issued ID
Collection of DNA is performed with a simple buccal swab to the inside of the cheek. In only a few seconds a sample can be collected from the patient. The most ideal situation would have the mother, alleged father/father, and child testing.

The DNA samples are then sent to a laboratory for testing. The results are generally available 3-5 day after samle collection.
