What Exactly is a Paternity Suit?


A paternity suit will occur when a person takes legal action to determine the biological father of a child. The reasons can be range from financial to moral responsibility of a child. Establishing paternity can also mean benefits that you may not receive otherwise unless you prove legally prove the biological father.

Both the mother and father can file a paternity suit. Often times the mother will be the one trying to legally establish the identity of the father of her child to receive benefits and taking care of a child. The alleged father may bring of a paternity suit if he wants to fight the fact that he is not the father. After this is established then the courts can take care of you know if he is the father then child support and custody issues will be resolved.
